What’s in store for Chapter participants in 2019

Next Chapter Project Manager Mirjam Bader takes a closer look at and reveals what’s in store for 2019

“2019 is going to be another exciting year for the Chapters! As well as continuing to get to know other participants in their local area and to network and socialise both during meetings and outside of the Hub meetings, we have a host of new activities for you to get involved with…

Although some of the Chapters have already decided on what local need they want to highlight and try to address as part of their Community Project, other Hubs are still trying to make up their minds on what issue they will choose and address. In the New Year, your Co-ordinator will work with you to facilitate your Chapter Hub in developing ideas for your Community Project using a community development approach. Each Chapter will have a budget of £3,000 to use towards making this a reality. Here at Politics Plus, and together with our partners NICVA and Irish Rural Link, we cannot wait to find out more about all the different projects that are going to be developed for your communities.

Another activity planned for the New Year involves visits to both Stormont and the Dáil. In addition to this being an opportunity to learn more about the seats of government for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, it is also a great way to meet members from other Chapters. All transport and catering will be arranged and the bus will pick up participants from the various Chapters on the way so you get a chance to sit back and chat. Once the dates are announced in the New Year your Co-ordinator will take bookings to secure your place.

After all visits have been completed there will be another opportunity to meet up with the participants from other Chapter Hubs, this time to enter into a debating competition (more details to follow in January). Find out which Hub has best prepared itself and works together most effectively to win the argument and therefore the trophy!

The next REPRESENT Women’s Ambassador Forum will take place on 9 May 2019 and the event will have a strong community theme. Save this date in your diary if you are interested in taking part and your Co-ordinator will provide more information closer to the time.

After the summer holidays, each of the Chapters will start work on their three minute ‘Legacy’ podcast. This will include deciding what this means in relation to peace & reconciliation, good relations and/or gender equality in public life and the experiences they have had in their group, as well as developing the ideas for telling the story in under three minutes.

I hope you agree that this is an exciting programme for the New Year for the Chapters.

Best wishes for the holiday season and a peaceful 2019.”
